JAEK (Just an Estes Kit)

JAEK is a converted Estes Vapor kit that was modified to fly on a J class motor to achieve an altitude of 10,000 feet at a speed of Mach 2. The rocket was reinforced using a carbon composite layup to prevent fin flutter and provide strength and rigidity to the airframe. The first flight of JAEK ended with the Polystyrene nosecone failing with the rest of the rocket being recovered safely. The second flight launched with a successful accent however the rocket was not successfully tracked to be recovered. The rocket was overall a success with many lessons being learned during the construction and flights.
